Phil Nemir, President

Phil has been volunteering with LLTT since 1990.  He is a native Californian who has lived and worked in Lassen County for nearly 30 years.  He is a self-employed consulting forester, and certified general real estate appraiser.  He manages over 8,000 acres of privately held forestland in the Sierra and Cascade ranges of Northeastern California, and is Certified as a Group Resource Manager by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Frank Hall, Vice President

Frank holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Humboldt State University and a Master’s Degree from Chico State University.  He retired from California Department of Fish and Game after thirty-eight years.  He was the Wildlife Biologist for Lassen County and conducted research, management, and inventories of numerous wildlife habitats and species, especially pronghorn antelope, black tailed and mule deer, and sage grouse.  He also designed and implemented bitterbrush restoration on 4,000 acres and migratory deer crossing structures over 5 miles of HWY 395.  Frank is a member of the statewide Project Review Committee for the California Deer Association.

Andrew Bertotti

As a lifelong resident of Lassen County, Andrew brings a background in agriculture, soil sciences and lands management to the Trust.  He is committed to enhancing and protecting our natural and cultural heritage of working landscapes and wild lands.

Jeff Fontana

Jeff is the public affairs officer for the Bureau of Land Management’s Northern California District which includes field offices in Susanville, Alturas, Cedarville, Redding, and Arcata. He considers himself fortunate to have a position with diverse challenges while being based in beautiful northeast California.  He holds a BA degree in journalism from the University of Nevada.   Jeff’s familiarity with the Lassen Land and Trails Trust stretches back to the organization’s beginnings.  As a journalist, he covered the events, including a plan to burn the Susanville Depot as a fire training exercise that led to formation of a citizen group to save the historic Depot.  That group evolved into LLTT. Jeff, his wife, Carol, and son, Christian, reside in Susanville.

Tim Garrod

Mr. Garrod has been a partner in owning and operating Bird Flat Ranch in Doyle for over thirty years. He has served our Lassen County farming and ranching community on the Honey Lake Resource Conservation Committee and most recently as their Chairman. The Trust’s work would benefit greatly from  his agricultural experience and insights, as well as his experience in Resource Conservation.

Georgianne Hall

Georgianne is a native of the Chicago area.  She received a BA in Humanities from CSU Chico.  She lived and worked in Australia from 1968 to 1989 as a Parliamentary assistant and with the National Capital Development Commission.  Georgianne has been a resident of Lassen County since 1989.  She was a library volunteer for 5 years before being employed as the cataloger of all library materials for 6 years.  She was a substitute teacher for the Susanville School District for 7 years.  She retired in 2003 and continues to be involved in many community organizations including American Association of University Women, Monticola Club, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Susanville Symphony and acts as a classroom volunteer.

Jonelle Kanavel

Jonelle Kanavel graduated from CSU, Chico in 1984 with a degree in geography, focusing on rural and regional planning.  An educator since 1985, she currently teaches fifth grade at Janesville School.  Jonelle enjoys hiking with her husband and two daughters in the Susanville Ranch area and on the Bizz Johnson Trail.

Michael McCue

Elizabeth Norton

Elizabeth Norton retired in January 2008 after a 31 year career in federal government working for the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service.   During her federal career she worked in Minnesota, Michigan, Wyoming, Vermont, Washington, DC, and California.  She served as the Public Services Officer for the Lassen National Forest in Susanville for 15 years (1993-2008).  In this position, Elizabeth secured millions of dollars in grant funds to support the Lassen’s recreation program and enhance customer service for the visiting public.  Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in Forest Management from Syracuse University.  She resides in Susanville where she and her husband, Bob, manage a ranch.  They enjoy wilderness hiking, camping, canoeing, skiing, and four-wheeling.  Elizabeth is an active volunteer with the Recreation Outdoor Coalition promoting outdoor recreation in the North State.

Lewis Oring

Dr. Oring, Professor Emeritus, UNR (retired) and distinguished ornithologist whose knowledge and expertise will assist the Trust in conserving natural areas for habitat. Dr. Oring lives at Eagle Lake and has long served as a volunteer with the Trust, leading Discover Lassen County adventures and being a guest instructor with our Nature Camp.

Katie Zumpano

Katie has a clear passion for discovery, our trails and active recreation.  She is committed to the preservation, expansion and awareness by the public of Lassen County’s outdoor recreational resources.  She brings with her experience in peer training in the state’s correctional and law enforcement agencies, as well as experience with youth through the California Correctional Center Youth Diversion Program.
