The Ski Trip – Has been CANCELLED because there is NO SNOW!!!
Cross Country Ski with us to Butte Lake. This excursion is approximately 13 miles round-trip and will be great for experienced cross-country skiers in good physical condition. If you are looking for a little less adventure, join us and turn back at your leisure!
The Ski Trip is free! Pre-registration is required. Please fill out the registration form below.
Meet at the Historic Susanville Railroad Depot at 8:30. We will carpool to the Hwy 44 turnoff.
Skiers should be prepared:
- A Comfortable Pack
- Appropriate clothing for variable weather conditions – Think layers
- Hat and gloves
- Water
- Lunch
- Snacks
- Sunscreen
The group will make it back to the Depot by 5pm for the a warm and tasty Soup Dinner at the Depot.
The trip leader is Phil Finkel. Finkel has been backcountry skiing in Lassen County since he moved here in 1990. His favorite ski tours include the Diamond Mountains, Thompson Peak, Eagle Lake Pass and the Hog Flat area. He has been been a member of the Lassen Volcanic National Park Backcountry Ski Patrol since 2003. He is trained in Search & Rescue, Avalanche Awareness and Wilderness First Aid and has put his skills into use on several incidents in the backcountry. Finkel enjoys the Butte Lake ski tour for its scenery, the Cinder Cone challenge and the comradarie among skiers.

Join us for over 15 different soups, salads, and breads Saturday, January 28th at 5:00pm. Soup Night is the perfect way to wind up a wintery month with friends, a warm fire, and delicious soups. Soup Night is open to everyone (not just the skiers!). The dinner will be held at the Historic Susanville Railroad Depot, 601 Richmond Rd. Soup Night donations are requested at $10 per adult and $5 for kids 12 and under.
